When do I need to renew my tRev?

Look at the lower left of your editor window:

If you have more than 60 days before expiration, your screen will look like the above. If less then 60 days until expiration, it will appear as you see below with an expiration date and a link to click for online renewal.

When you are within 30 days of expiration, the date turns yellow. Within 15 days, red.

As mentioned earlier...

You can use your tRev application forever (as long as it works with Revolution), but you only receive updates for one year with the initial purchase and by renewal thereafter. The renewal fee is currently $40 USD for 12 months of action-packed updates.

tRev has a yearly renewal fee for updates

Right now it costs $40 USD to renew tRev after its first year—or to switch from GLX2 to tRev. This fee is subject to change, as is our initial price. Your license is for YOU and however machines you personally use.

The yearly fees are for the nearly non-stop upgrades. If you do not renew, tRev does not stop working unless Revolution changes so much that it will not run. The Revolution language and Rev IDE change a lot and the OS's change a lot.

tRev is updated every week with enhancements, new features and optimizations. Sometimes more often. It is continually improving and keeping up with Revolution and two of the platforms it runs on: Mac OS X and Windows Vista/7.

When you are within 60 days from expiration tRev will tell you via the status field (shown directly above), when you will stop getting updates and offer you a clickable link to renew. When you are within 30 days of expiration, the date in the status field will turn yellow. When 15 days from expiration, it will turn red. The renewal link takes you to our secure PayPal page. Renewals add to the existing license end-date, btw.

Also, it is worth noting that the market for Revolution add-ons is VERY small. The fees we charge don't really cover the time being devoted to the product from our side. It is much more a labor of love than anything. On the upside, I get to use a really great script editor on my other work!

New Transparent Inspection

Option Key Inspection has become Transparent Inspection!

(download)

Here's how to use Transparent Inspection:

  1. Choose menu item Transparent Inspection from the Inspect menu (cmd+i) to turn it on
  2. Editor goes transparent and, as you move your mouse, you'll see info about objects in Rev
  3. Type any single key (except escape) and the object below your pointer gets added to your tRev tabs
  4. Type cmd+i or escape to turn off the Transparent Inspection.

Use your option (alt) key as it was intended

  • to copy when you drag (no longer shift)
  • to bypass warning dialogs (no longer shift)
  • use option to display text of colors in raptor handlers (not shift)
  • to close all tabs but current one, use option, not shift
  • close all tabs except current applies to menu item, too (cmd+option+w)
  • to force editor to hug bottom right corner after moving it, use option key
  • taking a snapshot of a snap now requires option key (no longer shift)
  • to force the content of a renamed field to become its name, use option (no longer shift)

Dialogs

  • bypass warning dialogs by depressing option key (no longer shift)
  • bypass includes quick keys for column buttons
  • warning dialogs now force you to click to take the most drastic action (like deleting)

Fixes

  • closing a stack in Rev when destroyStack=false no longer closes its tabs in tRev
  • replacing text via the Replace or All buttons now marks appropriate tabs as dirty
  • deleting a control now re-surrounds the next control in snaps with orange rect
Updates for both platforms are ready for you. Just Check for Updates from the Help menu.

tRev updates its components; you update tRev app

The application tRev is a standalone that houses the tRev components.

  • tRev app handles its own component updates.
  • It tells you when it has a new component for you and also when the app itself needs updating.
  • You can also check to see if there are new components or a new build of the app via the Check for Updates menu item beneath tRev's Help menu.
  • It also shows you a link in the bottom left corner of your editor window, when there's one or more component for you to update or if the app needs to be downloaded and installed.

tRev app cannot, however, update itself. You must do that. It will tell you when it needs to be downloaded again and installed, but you must do the downloading and installing.

How do you determine if your tRev application is up-to-date other than using Check for Updates?

Check the build number in the title bar of the about box.
  • You can get to the about box by choosing About tRev... from the Help menu on Vista and the tRev menu on OS X.
  • If your about box looks like the one below or has a build number lower than the one mentioned in recent posts on our website, you need to manually download a new tRev application from our website as prescribed below.

How do you update tRev, the application? Just go to the tRev web site and look on the right side of the page.

Click a link to download. Then put the app where it belongs and you're ready to fire-up tRev!

Making certain you have the latest build is also handled by the Check for Updates process. It validates your tRev app's build number. If you are using an old build of the tRev app, the update checker will alert you to that fact when you check for updates.

New: component-level auto-updater!

Above: tRev checks every five minutes for an update. Posts a status message with a link in lower, left corner of editor when there's an update.

Above: Either clicking the update links mentioned, or using the Help menu's Check for Updates... you'll be told what's available and when it was built.

Above: you can watch as tRev updates those of its 25 components that have changed.

NOTE: This is a component-level updater, not an app level updater. You will not need to restart the app and you only get what has changed.

Above: Once you've gotten your updates, the next time you choose Check for Updates... from the Help menu, tRev is very comforting and re-assuring.
